Basic knowledge is a must—especially when interacting with passengers. Without German language skills, it is very difficult to navigate your way through your job and everyday life. Simple sentences and understanding questions are essential. Many companies offer support for attending German courses.
An EU bus driver’s license (D or D1 bus driver’s license obtained within the EU) is recognized in Tirol without any problems. It is important that you also have a valid driver qualification certificate (D95). This entitles you to drive buses for commercial passenger transport. Within the EU, these driving licenses are mutually recognized and do not have to be reissued when you change your place of residence, but you can do so voluntarily. Driving licenses for classes C (C1) or D (D1) issued in another EEA country are valid for up to the date specified by the issuing country, but for a maximum of five years, if they are not reissued by then, when you move your residence to Austria.
In Germany, there is a profession called “Fachkraft im Fahrbetrieb” (transport operations specialist). This training program does not exist directly in Tirol, but comparable qualifications are recognized.
